Fox Glacier April 5, 2011

What a difference 24 hours can make. We woke up this morning to sunshine. In the breakfast room you could see Mt. Cook and Mt. Tasman, coated in snow. We shared the room with 4 people from Sweden and a Canadian from BC.

Our first stop was the Fox Glacier. This glacier was similar to Franz Joseph (or Frank Joe, as Mike was calling it). We walked out the moraine and that was pretty amazing with the walls looming above. It is amazing what people wear while walking out on this terrain. Flip-flops and sandals and flimsy looking flats were to be seen. The wind coming off the glacier was cold.

Back to town to pick up sandwiches and off to Lake Matheson. It is 6 km from town and is the place to photograph the mountain peaks in its reflection. By the time we walked around the lake to the best viewing spots, there were clouds in front of the mountain peaks and rippling waves in the lake. No perfect reflection pictures today.

We saw some more interesting camper vans. They fascinate me.
